Call for abstracts

The 2021 organising committee invite submissions of oral presentation and poster abstracts from all areas of science and mātauranga Māori relating to the marine environment and encourage presenters to reflect on the ways in which the past informs their research and actions.

Oral presentations: 15 minutes (including three minutes for questions). Session chairs will be ruthless, so please keep your talks to 12 minutes.

Posters: Please print your posters in 'portrait' orientation at size A0.

Holding a conference in the time of COVID

Holding a conference in the time of COVID is a risky undertaking. A last minute cancellation or postponement is a very real possibility that could leave the Society with significant bills to pay. The only way that we have been able to move ahead with this year’s conference is through limiting the event’s financial exposure and through sharing the risks between the Society, sponsors and conference delegates. Consequently, this year’s conference will be a little bit different.

We are running on a much tighter budget than usual with the main changes being significant reductions in catering and conference organising costs. The daytime catering will not be as fancy as you will have experienced at recent NZMSS meetings. However, we hope that the opportunity for a face-to-face meeting will more than make up for these changes (and there are plenty of fine cafes and restaurants close by in the Tauranga CBD).

In the event of a short notice, cancellation there will be fixed costs that the Society will have to cover, and as such, we will only be able to offer a 50% refund of your registration fees. If the conference is cancelled, we will organise an online event in its place at a later date.
